Welcome from our Priest
The Rev. Dr. Richard Laribee (“Rick”), has served congregations for 4 decades as youth pastor, pastor, and priest. In this capacity, Rick focuses on the spiritual development of people in community -- especially through the classic Christian spiritual practices of praying together, learning together, worshipping together, problem solving together, and serving together in mission.
Passionate about finding new opportunities for the future by understanding the ways and stories of the past, Rick has explored ancient historical, cultural, and religious sites, views, and practices. He has pursued this passion all over the world, exploring and photographing ancient, medieval, and contemporary shrines and cultural sites in Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and America. He spent 2 years in the Middle East to research religious and cultural connections and perspectives among Christians and Muslims. His home base was the American University of Iraq, where he taught world religions and western civilization.
Rick loves sailing, snorkeling, scuba, world travel, films, photography, cooking, and science fiction. Committed to “service above self,” he has participated in Rotary and Kiwanis, and helped build homes for the poor in West Virginia, Mississippi, New Mexico, and Panama with Habitat for Humanity.
As our interim rector, Rick served from November 2017 through October 2018, aspiring to inspire, pastor, and guide us through the careful work of preparation and search for our next settled rector.
